Shea: N. Barrington, Illinois, United States; I am a southern girl from Spencer, Indiana. It is a very romantic town of clapboard houses and tree-lined streets, near the river, surrounded by woods, and fields of corn and wildflowers . The most inspiring place of all was the cementary! Yes! The beautiful weatherworn marble oblisks and mausoleums set out on a winding gravel road created a grand procession among the tombstones and flowers to the stone pavillion protected by civil war cannons, set high on the hill commanding the view and demanding quiet respect and reverence. I played there regularly. These were my first real lessons in architecture and life. Procession, ceremony, order, respect, and caring. These lessons came into play for me when I moved to Chicago and began to pursue formally my design education. I graduated 1st in my class from Harrington Institute of Interior Design, then I graduated from Roosevelt University with my B.A. in Interior Design, and finally, to the University of Illinois @ Chicago for my Master's of Architecture. I won Traditional Home Magazine's Designer of the Year Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Traditional Design.
